RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My primary research interests focus on the deformation characteristics of granular materials. The materials are widely used as aggregate base, subgrade soil in pavement engineering, backfill for retaining walls, and in dam construction, among others. The fundamental aspect of my work involves the development of a new constitutive model for grained materials that includes new elements such as anisotropy, time-dependent deformation, small strain behavior and cyclic loading behavior. These topics have practical applications which makes it able to obtain research funding from a wide array of local and national sources.

AWARDS AND HONORS:

The Hogentogler Award 2004 of American Society of Testing Materials for the research paper in Geotechnical Testing Journal: "Comparison of Young's moduli of dense sand and gravel measured by dynamic and static methods". (First author)

Research Award 2001 of Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science for an excellent post-doctoral fellow.

Full scholarship award of Japanese Ministry of Education for Ph.D study at the University of Tokyo, Japan (1998-2001)

Full scholarship award of Japanese Ministry of Education (Monbusho) for Master study at the University of Tokyo, Japan (1996-1998)

The Gold Medal 1995- Prize of Hochiminhcity University of Technology for the best student in Civil Engineering Department through five-year study (1990-1995).
